About the Farm:
Nestled in a beautiful little valley just outside Lansing,
Iowa, Village Creek Farm is owned and operated by Bob Raymond with help from
his wife, Julie. After retiring from the
U.S. Postal Service four years ago, Bob turned to farming full time, raising salad
greens in plastic hoop houses on his 16-acre farm. The hoop houses allow an extended growing
season, producing salad greens as early as April and as late as December,
without any supplemental heat. Three
years ago, they added pasture-raised chickens to the products being offered.
Bob is a member of GROWN Locally, a farmers cooperative located in northeast Iowa made up of 15-20 small farmers dedicated to producing locally grown food that is fresh, wholesome, and sustainably grown. After opening Village Creek Farm Market in 2009, the vegetable production on the home farm has been greatly expanded, now producing most of the vegetables for the farm store.
Plans are currently underway to add a heated green house to the store, allowing out-of-season production of their own tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers.
